What I completely forgot to mention--fairly unbelievably--is that my second novel, Terra Nova, grew out of the same Polar fascination that's making me go on this trip. And had it not been for the pandemic, I'd have taken this trip in 2020, before the book was published. Now it's not a research trip, but a celebration (if you like your celebrations touched with terror!).

Terra Nova was one of my favorite novels of 2023. You’re brave to travel there!
