Timely article, Henriette. I too am riding a challenging event the first weekend in August. Training has been interrupted due to illness, injury, and family matters that have taken me out of town and required all my attention and energy. I am not too sure I’ll be able to finish the event. What I’ve been reminding myself over and over again is the doing is all, not the outcome. My hope is to remember achievement is contained in the effort and what I’ll learn from it. I feel the anticipation of trying to climb more feet in a ride than ever before, and some dread that the fitness level I was training for won’t be there.

The best part is I’ll get to see Matt!

First, that's great that you're doing the VT event Matt is doing! I have to say, I really like your attitude here. I agree: achievement is contained in the effort and what one learns from it. I think that's brilliant. It reminds me of what Kilian Jornet says about training and competing--how he looks to training as an exploration to find out something about himself, about what he can achieve/endure/withstand. And he says the training is more interesting than the competition (at least I _think_ I've understood him to say this). I like that approach! After all, you spend so much more time training than competing.

If I’m -not- flying, maybe I could wear a sign with my age on it. :-)

“I even stretched!” Dying. For the record, I join Matt as part of Team Shower Beer. But I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna be hearting a pic of you with a medal around your neck. LOVING this newsletter, so psyched to be following!

Let’s see what happens! I’m telling myself—and I believe this—that no matter what, it will be a epic day in mountains I love.
